Get to Know Bonds Tavern

Learn more about a beloved burger joint in West Orange, NJ

Bonds Tavern combines the nostalgia of a long-lost neighborhood burger joint with a modern tavern setting to create the area's newest destination for relaxed, casual family dining.

Growing up in neighboring Verona, owner John MacEvoy recalls his favorite Saturday morning routine as a kid: riding bikes with his buddies up Mt. Pleasant Ave. to the Manor, where they'd fish for quarters in the wishing well fountain. With their pockets heavy, they'd head to the original Bonds (now a Chipotle) for a big, delicious cheeseburger and a milkshake.

After Bonds shut its doors in the 1970s, Pals Cabin earned its reputation as the go-to spot for the best burger, and the historic family restaurant kept that deserving title for many decades. The end of a Pals era created a great burger void, and that's when John searched West Orange, NJ for the perfect space with tons of convenient parking.
